Award winners in the First Annual North County Math and Science "Best Practices" Showcase - May 28, 1998

Karen Radcliff, Vista High School
Vista High School developed an interactive multi-year program that combines algebra, geometry, trigonometry, probability and statistics.  The program has been remarkable in its ability to motivate students to continue their math education.  Eighty-nine percent of all seniors are taking a fourth year of math even though it is not required.

Ron Peet, San Pasqual High School
The San Pasqual High School Mathematics Department developed a curriculum upon the theme of mathematics as sense making.  Investigations of real-life context lead to discovery of important mathematics that make sense to students and, in turn enable them to make sense out of new situations and problems.  The investigations link mathematical concepts to a variety of curricula.
