2004-05 GOALS for ROTARY CLUB OF SAN
MARCOS
Thank you to our 2004-05
Centennial Rotary Leadership
A) Membership
- Strengthen the ability to provide service in the community and
internationally by increasing club membership to 40.
Possible activities:
1) Potential
New Member list has been developed, with the Membership Development
Committee will schedule one-on-one visitations, extending an invitation to
attend Club activities.
2) Membership
Co-Chairs Bill Wood and John Forst, Club Service Chair Darrell McMullen,
and Program Chair, Gary Koston will work together to create a program
schedule, which is of interest to the business community, while retaining the
quality for our current membership.
3) Improving
public awareness of our Club community involvement through a strong PR Campaign
4) Create
business-networking opportunities through Yellow Pages on our Website, and
other enhancements to the website - Newsletter/Internet Chair, Rob Eckert.
5) Business
Expo at a Club meeting during Vocational Month.
6) Conduct
organized, positive high-energy meetings, within the Rotary guidelines - Sergeant-at-Arms,
Bill Uland.
7) Maintaining
strong Club Membership support and organization - under the leadership of Secretary,
Jim Kelley, and Treasurer Sam Vakil.
B) Financial
Support - Actively involve and motivate ALL club members to financially
support the San Marcos Club Foundation projects, and RI Foundation programs.
Under the leadership of Foundation Chair, Chuck Linn:
1) San
Marcos Foundation
a)
Pledges - Have $100 a required pledge, with additional amounts
appreciated. Foundation Chair, Chuck Linn to develop a team to
motivate and inform Club Members of the need to support our ongoing projects.
b) Fundraising -
Possible activities:
1) Reverse
Opportunity Drawing Chair, President-Elect John Forst will continue to lead
the club membership in holding this successful fundraiser.
2) Develop a Fundraising Committee to explore
additional fundraising events.
2)
Rotary International Foundation - Improve club understanding of giving to the Rotary
International Foundation and increase use of its resources for international
projects;
a)
Foundation Chair, Chuck Linn and his committee to
conduct an annual giving drive in the fall for unrestricted giving.
C) Vocational/Youth
Service - Enhance club understanding of these two avenues of service by
holding several special activities.
Possible activities, with the leadership of Vocational/Youth
Service Chairs, Bill Schramm and Shelly Anguiano:
1) Hold
two club meetings at member workplaces.
2) Send
four students & a facilitator to RYLA, with a follow-up implementation
project.
3) Continue
to sponsor SM High Interact - Interact Chair, Shelly Anguiano
4) Provide
Interact with funds and support for a Community Centennial Project.
5) Start
Mission Hills Interact.
6)
Continue to provide Scholarships - two for SM High, and
two for Palomar College - Scholarship Chair - Jim Hitson
D) Developing
Peace & Understanding - Expand one-on-one opportunities for international
contact and education, while developing cultural understanding.
Possible activities, with the leadership of International
Chair, Jean-Jacques Foucherot, and other Board Officers and Chairs:
1) Continued
our Project Mexico house building, while developing our relationship with the
Rotary Club of Tijuana; through building day participation, mutual financial
support, and fellowship.
Project Mexico Chair,
Joe Madrigal, Co-Chairs Matilda Lepa, and Glenn Schwartz.
2) Have
5 members or more attend District Foundation Seminar
3) Create
Sister City “Twin city” relationships with 1 or more International Clubs
4) Plan
a joint Club event in Tijuana with the Rotary Club of Tijuana, for members and
significant others.
5) Develop
an international Centennial matching grant project.
6) Participate
in the Districts Pathways to Peace program, by sponsoring two students,
a facilitator and a Rotarian for a Model United Nations Conference in June
2005, which will follow a 6 weeks series of instructional training - Peace
Chair, Joan Boughton
7)
Become more aware, involved with District international programs, by
volunteering time, hosting in home, inviting to Club Meetings - under the
leadership of 2003-04 President Luene Corwin
E) Centennial
Celebration - Create a special 100th Celebration Rotary Club
Year, which will help San Marcos residents and will give Rotary special
visibility in Centennial Year 2005.
Possible ideas with the leadership of Community
Service Chair, Stephanie Mathews, and other Board Chairs:
1) Have
the Club Members submit ideas for a hands-on project, reviewed, and approve by
the Club for implementation - some for examples
a) Party
Celebration for all Senior in San Marcos celebrating their 100th
Birthday during our Rotary Centennial Year, in conjunction with the ‘Unveiling”
on Centennial Project.
b) Develop
a Local Advertising campaign - San Marcos Rotary - 100th Celebration
c) Build
relationships with other service organizations, doing joint community efforts.
2) CSUSM
Presidential Scholarship - community partnership for a transfer student from
Palomar.
3) Have
ongoing programs throughout the Rotary year to reeducate the San Marcos Rotary
Club of RI’s 100 years of Service Above Self.
4) 2004-05
Centennial San Marcos Rotary Leadership to join efforts in creating, and
encouraging their Committee Chairs, and the Club Membership to share the Rotary
Story through all their personal and business efforts, to enhance the ongoing
year-long Rotary Centennial Celebration.
F) “Celebrate
Rotary” participation - Participate in Rotary International goals
concerning Health, Poverty, Literacy, and Environment.
Possible activities with the leadership of 2004-05
Centennial Leadership.
1) Continue
to support Polio Eradication.
2) Continue
our Holiday Adopt A Family Program - Adopt A Family Chair, Pat Hodgkin.
3) Continue
to contribute to the Boys & Girls Club, evaluate other ways to become
involved.
4) Staff
Meals on Wheels every Monday - Meals on Wheels Chair, Devi Vakil
5) Promote
literacy through distribution of dictionaries to third graders - Dictionary
Chair, Glenn Schwartz
6) Support
San Marcos community events, such as: Concerts in the Garden, VIBE, and Street
Fair
7) Maintain
a relationship with our 2003 Firestorm, Teddy Bear Family.
G) Family of
Rotary - Demonstrate care, concern, and appreciation for members and
their families; provide opportunities for informal interaction.
Possible activities with the leadership of Family
of Rotary Chair, Paul Dinkel, and Club Service Chair Darrell McMullen:
1) Continue
to develop our Rotary Family committee
2) Continue
our Telephone contact with members - Organizing Chair, Sam Mahr
3) Support
members in need - Organized by Ruth Dunlap
4) Hold
a Holiday party and a family oriented events
5) Have
several programs at regular meetings that interest families
