2004-05 Centennial President
Rotary Club of San Marcos
Dear Fellow Rotarians:
The Centennial year and the celebrations that will take place all over the Rotary world during
our 100th year Anniversary will offer many, many opportunities for service to our Clubs, our
Communities, and to Rotary. Through our
2004-05 Goals, we can all make our Centennial a truly memorable occasion.
On a February evening nearly one hundred years ago, four men gathered in a Chicago mining
engineer's office. Paul Harris, Silvester Schiele, Gustavus Loehr and Hiram Shorey
did not think that one century later, 31,000 clubs in 166 countries would be meeting every
week. Moreover, they certainly did not think that they were launching a movement that
would capture the hearts and minds of so many.
We are now celebrating the 100th anniversary of their action — a simple meeting between four
businessmen. When we celebrate all of the wonderful things that have happened because
of that action, keep in mind how we as Rotarians in the San Marcos Rotary Club can “Make
Hearts Sing, Minds Expand, and Spirits Soar”:
- By strengthening our community bonds with Centennial Community Projects
- By strengthening our International bonds with the Twin Clubs Program
- By achieving our Centennial Goals for membership growth, and supporting RI Annual Giving
- Most importantly, by performing countless acts of service - in our clubs, our vocations,
our communities, and our world.
My friends, by sharing Rotary with others in fellowship and service we will Celebrate a Century of Service, Celebrate a New Century of Success and most of all —
Celebrate Rotary!
Joan
