Here we have another classic shot of the Hymac 580C excavator stuck up to its counter weight. I (Joe Hart) recall abandoning ship and walking away from it.

My brother Timothy unbeknown to me hopped on the old dog and with some perseverance and good luck got her out.

This was in the Swamp paddock in the Tiritea valley.

These machines were about 12 ton with a perkins engine. Probably as good as you could get at the time.

We had a chap in Palmerston North I think his name was Allan Stewart who loved the Hymacs. He had all sorts of parts and the manuals etc, a great help to us boys.
