1960 saw the beginning of what could be said is the Hart family's introduction to earthmoving and heavy machinery.
The only picture we have from the good ole' days is this one here of Cecil Hart (Joe Hart's Great Grandfather) with his Caterpillar D2. A very popular bulldozer in New Zealand at the time, in fact so popular Caterpillar sold more D2's in New Zealand than anywhere else in the world at the time.
In the back of the hay shed a block of Macrocarpa was cut into the shape of a tank with a chainsaw.
It was 1979, and it was the beginning of C-DAX sprayers on a farm near Palmerston North, New Zealand.
Joe Hart's father wanted to create a spray tank for his trike for use on the farm, the shaped block of Macrocarpa was then sent for fabrication from aluminium.
It was from here C-DAX was born and became well known across New Zealand for what was a revolutionary idea in the farming industry.
By 1994 C-DAX had grown into a national company, selling spraying units for a multitude of farm machines.
It was here that the Hart family learnt the ins and outs of manufacturing products; all in the back of a now very advanced hay shed turned factory on the family farm.
It was also in 1994 that C-DAX sold and ultimately ended being owned by Ravensdown of New Zealand. Today C-DAX still operates near Palmerston North selling sprayers to the farming industry.
The inventive spirit and entrepreneurial spirit continued.
From 1995 to the early 2000s Joe Hart was running his own farm, contracting, and helping out with the family business; a heavy machinery hire company in Palmerston North City.
While completing a dairy water project, it was suggested that Joe use a 'tilting bucket' to get the job done on the slope of a hill. At the time no one used tilt buckets as they're known today and it required the conversion of a wide bucket.
After the initial hesitation of adding a ram to his wide bucket, the tilt bucket was a major success in speeding up work.
It was also the beginning of things to come.
Now in the new millennium, Joe and family moved to the Wairarapa starting their new business in earnest; Hiremax.
Hiremax was the Wairarapa's first locally based heavy machinery hire company.
With the gear, Joe Hart had amassed from his contracting days he started the hire company with five diggers, two bulldozers, two rollers, an eight-wheeler truck and a tip truck.
A lot of the gear at the start was well used with an average of 3,000 to 4,000 hours on each machine.
Hiremax quickly went from strength to strength in the region.
A new building was constructed just outside of Masterton to serve as the main base of operations with plenty of space to house and work on the equipment as it came and went to different sites.
It was also in 2004 that La Rippa was started, after building new ripper gear for Hiremax's own bulldozers, Hiremax was asked to build the same gear for others, which soon encompassed ROPS and track guards in the same year.
The stock market crash was one of the distinguishing factors of 2008; Hiremax and the fledgling La Rippa faced what would be a make or break time, a similar story for most companies of the time.
Hire utilisation and revenue were down over 40% and was during this time that Hiremax and La Rippa doubled down on their marketing efforts.
In addition to increased marketing, La Rippa had been experiencing increased interest from a number of sectors and expanded their offering by manufacturing buckets and prototype tilt buckets that would later become known as 'Elite Tilt Buckets'.
La Rippa was renamed to Attach2 to communicate better what products were on offer, Attach2 was still just a small part of the Hiremax business but was rapidly growing.
It was decided that for Attach2 to truly succeed and see it's true potential the Hart family had to commit and be ready to scale.
2018 saw the introduction of Attach2's most revolutionary bucket. The All in One Bucket. Making it's first full debut at the CCNZ REOC at the 2018 Big Boys Toys.
Whilst this year may still be in progress, a number of exciting developments have already occurred. Namely Attach2's acquisition of the Sure-Grip and Heli-Tilt Intellectual Property and Designs.
Mid 2019 also sees the establishment of Attach2 Australia in Brisbane and a new Manufacturing Hub, Offices and Support Team based there to support the new Heli-Tilt and Sure-Grip product lines.
